Move, copy or remove the app

Move the folder, put it on another computer, keep what matters, or remove everything it ever stored, including the settings in your browser.

The app is one folder, and what it stores outside that folder is small and easy to find. This page covers moving it, copying it to another computer, backing up what matters, and removing it completely. Quit the app first in every case, with Menu, then Quit app.

Move the folder

  1. Quit the app.
  2. Move the whole folder to its new place, with File Explorer or Finder.
  3. Start it again from the new place. If it starts, you are done.
  4. If the launcher says that the Python environment in .venv no longer works, delete the .venv folder and start again. It rebuilds in a few minutes. Nothing else is lost.

Shortcuts you made point to the old place. Make them again from the new one. See Add a shortcut or an icon.

Put it on another computer

The clean way is to install it again from the zip, as described in Install on Windows or Install on macOS. The Python environment in .venv belongs to the computer it was made on, and it is not worth carrying along. If you do copy a whole folder, the launcher repairs what it can: a .venv from Windows is rebuilt on a Mac automatically, and any other broken environment is reported with the instruction to delete it.

Your settings and recent files do not move with the folder. See below.

What is worth backing up

Scenes you saved
Wherever you chose to put them. They are your own files, outside the app folder unless you saved into it.
Exported files
The same: they are wherever you exported them to.
inbox
The converted GLB files. A STEP file that was converted once is converted again quickly when you open it, because the result is kept here. Copy out the ones you want to keep, and delete the rest.
Your original STEP files
The app never changes them, and never moves them.
Settings, the recent files list, panel sizes
Kept by your browser, not in the folder. They stay on the computer and in the browser profile, whatever you do to the app folder. To start over on the same computer, use the buttons under Settings, Storage.

Remove the app completely

  1. Optional, and best done first: open Settings, Storage, and clear what you do not want kept: recent files, file access, import options, panel sizes. All settings puts every preference back to its default.
  2. Quit the app from Menu, Quit app, and check that the launcher window has closed.
  3. If you installed the page as an app, remove that too. In Chrome, open chrome://apps, right-click MeshOptimiser and choose Uninstall. In Edge, open edge://apps and do the same. You can also open the app and choose Uninstall from the menu of its title bar.
  4. Delete the app folder, and any shortcuts you made.
  5. Optional: remove what the browser still holds for the address localhost. In the browser’s settings, search for “site data” and delete the entry for localhost:4242. If you did the first step, there is little left.
  6. Optional: remove Python, if it was installed only for this. On Windows, open Settings, Apps and uninstall “Python 3.12”. On a Mac, remove it the way you installed it: with brew uninstall python@3.12 if Homebrew installed it.

The app adds nothing else: no service, no scheduled task, no startup entry and no registry entries of its own to clean up.

Run it on your own machine.
