Install it as an app window

Since v0.13.0 the app opens in its own window. You can also install it for a desktop shortcut, and fold its title bar away.

From v0.13.0 the launcher already opens MeshOptimiser in a window of its own: a title bar and the app, with no address bar, no browser tabs and no extension buttons. It does this when Chrome, Edge or Brave is on your computer, and you do not have to install anything for it.

Installing is an extra. It gives the app its own icon, a shortcut on the desktop and in the Start menu, and a window to itself.

Install it

  1. Start the app as usual, so the local server is running.
  2. Open the app in an ordinary tab of Chrome or Edge. Type the address the launcher printed, normally http://localhost:4242, into the browser.
  3. The browser offers to install the page as an app (“Install”). Accept it.
  4. The app now has a shortcut and opens in its own window.

Fold the title bar away

In the installed app, the title bar has a small ^ button. Press it and the title bar disappears. The window’s own buttons (minimise, maximise, close) float over the top right corner, and the app’s top bar becomes the title bar.

  • Drag an empty stretch of the top bar to move the window.
  • Buttons, tabs and fields in the top bar still work as before.
  • Press ^ again to bring the title bar back.

An ordinary browser tab instead

If you prefer the app in a normal tab, start the server from a terminal in the app folder with the option --tab. The command-line converter explains how to open a terminal in the folder.

python serve.py --tab

Start without the black window (Windows)

The file start_hidden.vbs starts the app the same way as start.bat, without showing the launcher window. Use start.bat when you want to see what the launcher is doing, for example when something does not start.

Run it on your own machine.
